Volunteering



VOLUNTEERING

HMGS is always looking for volunteers to help at our shows. Please consider helping at one of the volunteer levels available. At Historicon we offer the following compensation for your time:

20 Hours
• Volunteer T-shirt.
• A badge to the show.
• 4 Food vouchers.
• ½ of a room (you will be sharing a room with another person so bring a friend or family member to volunteer with you).
10 Hours
• Volunteer T-shirt.
• A badge to the show.
• Food vouchers.
5 Hours
• Volunteer T-shirt.
• A badge to the show.

This year Historicon will need additional volunteers to help our attendees navigate the new location. These are in addition to the information desk, GM help desk, and setup duties that were added to our staffing needs last year. We expect these changes to continue to improve the shows for our attendees.

We need people to staff the following areas:

Logistics – Duties include:

  • Assisting GMs/Wally's participants in unloading and getting their materials to our secure holding area.
  • Manning secure storage area.

Wally's Basement – Duties include:

  • Assisting attendees.
  • Crowd control.
  • Helping Wally’s participants with setup.

GM Help Desk – Duties include:

  • Managing the event board and assisting attendees with choosing events.
  • Answering general attendee questions - e.g. Helping them find events.
  • Assisting GMs with issues.
  • Collecting fill rate data.

Registration – Duties include:

  • Computer Skills for onsite registration volunteers.
  • Assisting pre-registered attendees with the new print-on-demand system.
  • Handing out t-shirts and convention bags.

Exhibit Hall – Duties include:

  • Setup pipe and drape. (Tuesday)
  • Helping exhibitors at check-in by providing badges, resolving issues, etc. (Wednesday/Thursday)
  • Checking attendee badges during exhibit hall hours.
  • Tear down pipe and drape. (Sunday afternoon)

Information Booth – Duties include:

  • Answering attendee questions. Familiarity with the convention, convention facilities, and local area preferred.

Runners/Set up/Tear down – Duties include:

  • Unloading the storage pod, setup and teardown of pipe and drape, stanchions, etc. and packing up and reloading the storage pod.
