Online Registration is available
We highly recommend that you register in advance online. We really can't stress this enough. You get discounted admission and convention t-shirts, additional game selections and you know instantly whether you have a ticket for the game of your choice. Paying at the door will take some time and requires standing in line. This means less time for you to enjoy the convention. No one enjoys standing in line.

It's going to be a great show. Here are some highlights.

  • Game List - Tournaments
  • Rhonda Bender - Special Guest Hobby University (see below)
  • LTC Ian Humphrey - US Army War College Speaker "Mountain Warfare"
  • Game Design School (schedule coming soon)
  • HMGS "Teachers Program" - Showing how to teach history using miniatures in the classroom
  • HAWK's Battle-in-a-Box Competition
  • LittleWarsTV Events
  • And more . . .

Show Theme:
EXTREME TERRAIN: Mountain Warfare

In looking for an interesting theme for this years shows, the convention team turned to terrain and the challenges different types of terrain present in a military campaign which might add an interesting element to tabletop gaming. I am really excited about the this years Cold Wars theme and hope to see some beautiful terrain on the gaming tables.

Mountain warfare refers to warfare in the mountains or similarly rough terrain. This type of warfare is also called Alpine warfare, after the Alps mountains. Mountain warfare is one of the most dangerous types of combat as it involves surviving not only combat with the enemy but also the extreme weather and dangerous terrain.

Mountain ranges are of strategic importance since they often act as a natural border, and may also be the origin of a water source (e.g. Golan Heights – water conflict). Attacking a prepared enemy position in mountain terrain requires a greater ratio of attacking soldiers to defending soldiers than a war conducted on level ground.

Mountains at any time of year are dangerous – lightning, strong gusts of wind, rock falls, avalanche, snow pack, ice, extreme cold, glaciers with their crevasses and the general uneven terrain and the slow pace of troop and material movement are all additional threats to combatants. Movement, reinforcements, and medical evacuation up and down steep slopes and areas where even pack animals cannot reach involves an enormous exertion of energy. A brief word about why an "electronic" brochure:
Printing and postage are expensive. There are more effective vectors (like this email) to communicate convention information. More information may be communicated in a more timely manner.

On average, HMGS® was mailing 6000+ convention brochures per convention with a less than 3% return rate. At best the brochure ends up in someone's recycling bin, at worst it doesn't arrive at it's destination, so we are trying something new! Let us know what you think, email
